Three games on Sunday, none worth featuring; nice to see them getting in all the make-ups in by using Sunday though.
East Haven @ Guilford @ 1pm
-East Haven and Steve Marsico will make it very hard for Guilford in their 3rd and final game against a DI team this year. In fact, if St. Joseph played Guilford i have a very hard time believing they would lose 2-5 again, like they did in the very first game of the year. Nonetheless, Guilford would like to say they are a top team and they will need a good win over East Haven for that. The Yellow Jackets are on the rise though and should win this one at home.
#3 Hamden @ #7 West Haven @ 1
-The oldest rivalry in the state blah blah blah. They don't need that to get hyped up for this game! Both teams know what's at stake: DI supremacy. A win for West Haven would help balance their losses to Amity and South Windsor while a win for Hamden would erase the 3-3 tie between the two last time and solidify the Green Dragons in that 3/4 spot. Regardless, both are very good teams and will playing at their best this afternoon. Bennett Rink is in for a treat today...get there early for this one!
#5 Notre Dame-West Haven @ #1 Fairfield Prep @ 1
-If ever there was a motivation to beat the #1 team in the state it would probably be to make-up for a 3-5 loss to a 4-10-1 ND-Fairfield team. Not to mention a 2-3 loss to West Haven two week prior. ND-WH is need of a statement win against a Top Ten opponent and #1 Fairfield Prep presents exactly. For Prep, it's just another day playing the toughest schedule in the state and they have shown they can beat quality opponents back-to-back-to-back-and so on. The game is at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport so that should help Prep some too; expect another extremely good game this afternoon in the one o'clock hour!
North Haven @ Conard @ 1
-Conard would like to say they beat a quality DI SCC team, much like the ones they will see should they make the DI tournament (I think they will). North Haven still hasn't made the tournament themselves and Conard presents a decent CCC team that would be a good win for them as well. Not the caliber of the other games today or at this hour but this still will be a great game in West Hartford at Veteran's Memorial Rink.
Notre Dame-Fairfield @ #8 South Windsor @ 5
-I would have featured this game even if ND-Fairfield was not coming off a major upset of #5 ND-West Haven. I don't think I can say it enough that ND-Fairfield has the talent and coaching to beat any DI team each and every time they skate out on the ice. South Windsor, on the other hand, would love to beat ND-Fairfield and prove they are just as good as the other Top Ten teams that have beat ND-Fairfield as well. South Windsor better bring their A game or they might end up have something in common with ND-WH that I'm sure they don't want to.
Wilton @ Darien @ 630
-Darien is officially in the DI tournament so they are looking to pick up some more wins and build some momentum going into the tournament. Wilton is a top DII team that will challenge Darien in this one at Darien Ice Rink; should be a good game.
#6 Ridgefield @ Westhill @ 630
-Another interesting FCIAC game, Westhill is a middle- to top-level DII team that has beat East Haven and Darien and only lost 0-2 to Greenwich that will be far from a walk-over for Ridgefield. Ridgefield would love a big win for their confidence going into games next Monday and Wednesday against #9 Glastonbury and #10 St. Joseph respectively.
This blog is all about high school sports in Connecticut. I do not cover every sport but I cover mainly girls vball, girls bball, football, boys bball, boys ice hockey, boys lacrosse and occasional posts on running (all 3 seasons), girls field hockey, wrestling, and boys soccer. I have a special interest in boys vball since I play that sport. I am a contributing writer for LaxPower; you should check out the link below!
