Boys' Lacrosse: Friday and Saturday Results (5/6 and 5/7)

Friday 5/6

Hall 10 @ Simsbury 12
-A win that Simsbury deffinetly needed but I was surprised that Hall put up 10 goals on the Trojans.
Goals: H --- Dan Davis 4, Jared Krikorian 3, Eli Fisher 2, Dan Carr; S --- Matt Bulmer 4, Jeff Smith 3, Trevor Gallagher 3, John Ryan 2.

Saturday 5/7

Xavier 2 @ #2 Fairfield Prep 14
-This year is not the year for the Falcons to finally beat Fairfield Prep for the first time in school history.  Instead, the Jesuits took out some anger from their 4-10 loss to Greenwich on Thursday and (virtually) locked up the #1 spot in the SCC.

Xavier 0 0 2 0 — 2

Fairfield Prep 5 3 2 4 — 14

Goals: X — Geoff Bruno, Trevor Buchus 1; FP — Connor Barr, Tyler Cox, Connor Kelly, Tim Edmonds 2, Matt Brophy, Robbie Nick, James Marusi, Jack Arrix, Randy Giles, David White 1.

Assists: FP — Brophy 5, Kevin Maiorano, Matt Mendicino, Giles, Troy Foriet 1.

Saves: X — Ford, Woods 4; FP — Seelye 3, Orvis 6.

Shots: X — 21; FP — 40

Fairfield Ludlowe 15 @ #3 Ridgefield 19
-What does this score say? It says that Ludlowe is very good...and Ridgefield is even better.  Ridgefield needed a quality win to stay in the conversation about the very best teams in CT and they got it with this win over Ludlowe, probably the most underrated team in the state.

#1 Darien 11 @ #7 New Canaan 5
-It was close in the first quarter and on could even argue first half but Darien is the real deal this year (yet again) and continues to prove it on a daily basis!

#6 Greenwich 8 @ Billerica Memorial (MA) 11
-Not a bad showing for Greenwich against one of the top teams in MA, in fact the top team in MA 1 (analogous to Class L in CT).

Boys' Volleyball: Wednesday and Thursday Results (5/4 and 5/5)

Wednesday 5/4

Wolcott Tech 3 @ Bloomfield 0
-Good win for Wolcott Tech and its a bad sign for Bloomfield that they didn't even pick up a set.

Cheshire 3 @ Lewis Mills 0
-Cheshire improves to 11-0.

Wethersfield 0 @ Newington 3
-Newington is collecting these wins against the other top teams in the CCC to prove what everyone thinks: they are the best!

Southington 3 @ Glastonbury 1
-If they can't be the best in the CCC, Southington is at least proving to be second best!

Thursday 5/5

South Windsor 0 @ Enfield 3
-SW couldn't even win a set in this one as Enfield avenges their 2-3 loss to the Bobcats from the beginning of the season!

Wethersfield 2 @ Glastonbury 3
-Tough loss for the Eagles but at the same time this is what the Tomahawks needed to bounce back from their loss to Southington.

Boys' Volleyball: Friday Results (5/6)

Friday 5/6

Staples 1 @ Darien 3 (19-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-20)
-For Staples, Jonah Aelyon had 12 kills and four digs, Andreas Bub had 10 kills and three blocks, and Danny Fishman had one ace and 32 assists. For Darien, Calder Billhardt had 10 service points, three aces, 23 kills, nine digs and two blocks, Austin Cockerill had six service points, three aces, 14 kills, five digs and two blocks and Matt Lee had 10 service points, two aces, 46 assists and six digs.

Ridgefield 3 @ Bridgeport Central 1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24)
-For Bridgeport Central, Jakob Valko had five kills, two blocks and 34 assists, Abdoulie Williams had 17 kills, eight blocks and 12 service points and Rodolfo Pestana had 22 service points, 14 kills, four blocks and eight digs.

Bloomfield 0 @ Fermi 3 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20)
-I'm Bloomfield couldn't win just one set but they look like they are a good team but not one of the top teams.
For Bloomfield, Kola Aina had 11 kills and 18 assists.  For Fermi, Josh Cheney had 12 kills.

Farmington 0 @ Newington 3 (25-17, 25-15, 25-17)
-Another dominating CCC win for Newington at home (Soutington 3-1, Wethersfield 3-0 and now this...all in a row).
For Newington. Derek Dempsey had 9 kills and 12 digs.  For Farmington, Kishan Vacchani had 15 assists.

Enfield 1 @ Wolcott Tech 3 (27-25, 26-24, 17-25, 26-24)
-Wolcott Tech reaffirms their position as one of the top teams in Class M but Enfield had a strong shwoing.

Boys' Lacrosse: Wednesday and Thursday's Results (5/4 and 5/5)

Wednesday 5/4

Glastonbury 13 @ Hall 7
-Hall now has two losses, both coming this week when they finally started facing quality opponents.  Glastonbury, on the other hand, is proving to be head and shoulders above the other CCC teams this year although they have a struggling Southington left and then the marquee match-up on 5/20 at home against the CCC's other top team, Simsbury!
Goals: G --- Chad Brittnell 7, Bobby Solecki 2, Cory Santor 2, Stefan Gottschalk, Zack Malsky; H --- Dan Carr 4, Eli Fisher, Dan Davis, Jared Krikorian.

#10 Joel Barlow 7 @ #5 Wilton 11
-It was a good game and that is a good sign for Barlow as they move on from this game to undefeated Newtown tomorrow!  Wilton rebounded from their come-from-behind loss to New Canaan yesterday nicely with this win.

Thursday 5/5

#7 New Canaan 8 @ Rye (NY) 12
-This is why I featured this game even though Rye was 4-5; they have a very good team and NC got handled to fall to 6-5 overall (still only 6-1 in-state).

#2 Fairfield Prep 4 @ #6 Greenwich 10
-see below:
Goals: G — Foote 3, Dodd 2, Dixon, Feeney, Moeser, Sands; F — Cotter 2, Brown, Kelly
Assists: G — Dixon 4, Moeser, Waine; F — Brown, Kelly, Edmonds.
Saves: G — Feeney 8; F — Seelye 7
Shots: G — 29; F — 15

Coanrd 7 @ Glastonbury 15
-Glastonbury gets another good CCC win and keeps adding quality wins to their record.

#5 Wilton 10 @ #3 Ridgefield 6
-Ridgefield has now lost to #6 Greenwich and #5 Wilton this week so their spot in the FCIAC is definetly slipping whereas Wilton has now won two straight games against teams in the Top Ten.

#10 Joel Barlow 5 @ #9 Newtown 9
-I know I had Newtown higher in my rankings because on paper they looked to be the better team but honestly this score shocked me because I thought Barlow would win.  After losses to #5 Wilton and #9 Newton, Barlow's stock won't drop too much but I think there will be a new team in the Top Ten next week!

Boys' Lacrosse: Friday and Saturday's Top Games (5/6 and 5/7)

Friday 5/6

Hall @ Simsbury @ 530pm
-In the only good game on the day, Hall faces their third straight quality opponent (and only 3 so far this season) while Simsbury gets the closest thing to a closest game they will play for another couple weeks. Simsbury should win but Hall may be able to pull off the upset.

Saturday 5/7
Xavier @ #2 Fairfield Prep @ 245pm
-Some may say Prep will roll right over the Falcons, especially since they will be fired up from their first in-state loss to #6 Greenwich but Xavier has the potential to beat any team in the state (#1 Darien excluded) any time they step on the field.  Xavier is that last SCC win Prep needs to prove they are the best in the conference and that will be enough motivation for the Jesuits to play at the top of their game at home in this one.

Fairfield Ludlowe @ #3 Ridgefield @ 3
-Ludlowe is a underrated team but anything can happen in the FCIAC as #6 Greenwich demonstrated on Tuesday.  Ridgefield really needs to bounce back form that loss and Ludlowe is the perfect opportunity for them to do that.

#1 Darien @ #7 New Canaan @ 4
-New Canaan beat #5 Wilton in a game the Rams were considered huge underdogs so yet again they will get a shot at the top of the FCIAC and the state in the role they seem to thrive in: underdog.

#6 Greenwich @ Billerica (MA) @ 6
-Greenwich is flying high after premier wins over #3 Ridgefield and #2 Fairfield Prep this week.  Billerica is the #2 in the MIAA East (147 schools) and #1 in MA 1 (similar to a Class L in CT) so they are right up there with Ridgefield and Prep in terms of talent.  The Cardinals better get up and ready for this, yet another, big game to cap off the week in lacrosse!

Boys' Volleyball: Top Games for Fri 5/6

Friday 5/6

Staples @ Darien @ 4pm

Ridgefield @ Bridgeport Central @ 4

Bloomfield @ Fermi @ 5

Farmington @ Newington @ 5

Enfield @ Wolcott Tech @ 530

Boys' Volleyball: Top Games for Wed 5/4 and Thurs 5/5

Wednesday 5/4

Wolcott Tech @ Bloomfield @ 5pm

Cheshire @ Lewis Mills @ 5

Wethersfield @ Newington @ 530

Southington @ Glastonbury @ 6

Thursday 5/5

South Windsor @ Enfield @ 4pm

Wethersfield @ Glastonbury @ 5

Boys' Lacrosse: Wednesday and Thursday's Top Games (5/4 and 5/5)

Wednesday 5/4

Glastonbury @ Hall @ 4pm
-Hall is coming off their first loss of the season to Hand on Monday and Glastonbury is tearing up the CCC so let's see if they can keep it up; anything can happen.

Joel Barlow @ Wilton @ 4
-Wilton needs to let go off their hard loss to New Canaan yesterday, a game that they led but let slip, if they hope to hand Joel Barlow their first loss of the season!

Thursday 5/5

New Canaan @ Rye (NY) @ 5
-Rye may be 4-5 but they play in the tough New York B's Section 1 and have lost to very good teams while also beating other good teams so NC could have their hands full in this.

#2 Fairfield Prep @ #6 Greenwich @ 5
-Greenwich is coming off their big-time upset of Ridgefield, my #3 team, so now they have a shot at #2 and the team everyone considers to be #1 in Class L!

Conard @ Glastonbury @ 530
-Conard is not a bad by any stretch of the imagination and they did beat Southington the other day so Glastonbury better not sleep on them!

#5 Wilton @ #3 Ridgefield @ 530
-Both had come from behind losses on Tuesday so lets see if they can turn things around and pick up a very high quality win against each other.

#10 Joel Barlow @ #9 Newtown @ 7
-If Barlow beats Wilton this will be a match-up of two undefeated teams looking to prove something in the state!

Boys' Lacrosse: Monday and Tuesday Results (5/2 and 5/3)

Monday 5/2

Weston 3 @ #10 Joel Barlow 8
-I mean what did I say was going to happen?

Hall 6 @ Daniel Hand 11
-see below
Hall 3 2 1 0 — 6

Hand 3 3 2 3 — 11

Goals: Hall — Dan Davis 3, Connor Doherty 2, Dan Carr; Hand — Riley Kirsch 3, Chad Crisco 3, Paul Alberti 2, Alec Pacelli, Casey Dowd, Will Reynolds.
Assists: Hand — Alberti 2, Crisco, Pacelli.
Saves: Hall — Sean Murphy, 14; Hand — Connor Carroll, 12, Richie Ortiz 2

#2 Fairfield Prep 11 @ Cheshire 6
-Prep comes out on top again but at least it was closer for the Rams this time around.

Tuesday 5/3 - two big comeback wins, both in the FCIAC and both "upsets" according to my rankings

Conard 10 @ Southington 8
-Now that's a good win for Conard

#3 Ridgefield 6 @ #6 Greenwich 8
-see below:
Ridgefield 3 3 0 1 --- 7

Greenwich 0 2 6 0 --- 8
All I have for stats is Greenwich players: Alex Moeser and Andrew Feeney each had at least one goal and Stephen Dodd had at least one assist.  Ryan Fisher made 11 saves for the Cardinals.

#1 Darien 17 @ Fairfield Ludlowe 4
-Darien = domination.

#5 Wilton 8 @ #7 New Canaan 10
-see below
Wilton 3 4 1 0 --- 8

New Canaan 2 5 1 2 --- 10
For stats, I have some but not all:
Goals: Wilton --- Matt Blasco 3, Scott O'Brien 2; New Canaan --- Sean Carroll 2, Michael Francia 2.
Assists: Wilton --- O'Brien 2; New Canaan --- Francia 2.

#8 Staples 7 @ #4 Brien McMahon 10
-There is a reason I have McMahon ahead of Staples, its nice to be right about one of the Top Ten match-ups today.

Boys' Volleyball: Monday and Tuesday Results (5/2 and 5/3)

Monday 5/2

Bloomfield 0 @ South Windsor 3

Cheshire 3 @ Xavier 0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-23)
-For Cheshire, Nate Howard had 11 kills and three blocks, Joe Bahgat 11 kills and one block and Ray Brumleve 25 assists.  For Xavier, Sean Neilson had 11 kills and three blocks.

Darien 3 @ Bridgeport Central 1 (25-15, 24-26, 25-19, 25-16)
-For Darien, Calder Billhardt had 19 kills, 12 service points, five digs and one block, Matt Lee had nine service points, 34 assists and three digs, Sam Bryant had seven kills, nine service points and seven digs and Austin Cockerill had 13 kills, five service points, two blocks and three digs. For Bridgeport Central, Jakob Valko had three kills and 26 assists, Abdoulie Williams had 14 kills and 12 blocks, Rodolfo Pestana had 17 kills, two blocks and six assists and Josh Domogala had nine digs.

Ridgefield 3 @ Masuk 1 (25-23, 13-25, 26-24, 25-23)
-For Ridegfield, Chris Bruno had 27 assists and 12 service points, Mike Peckham had 15 kills and seven service points and Wyatt Cooper had 12 kills, 12 service points and five blocks. For Masuk, Owen Burton had seven kills and eight blocks and Collin Neaton had 18 assists and seven service points.

Southington 1 @ Newington 3

Tuesday 5/3

2 games, neither of which is worth noting

Boys' Lacrosse: Monday and Tuesday's Top Games (5/2 and 5/3)

In case you haven't seen, here my lax rankings (5/1): http://hssportsct.blogspot.com/2011/05/boys-lacrosse-rankings-51.html

Monday 5/2

Weston @ #10 Joel Barlow @ 4pm
-Weston is #8 in the NHR poll and #10 in the Courant but I have them at 20 for good reason: they haven't really faced anyone good yet and they lost to New Fairfield when they played them.  Barlow is a talented team and actually undefeated so I expect them to stay that way but you never know when two good teams get together so this is worth watching.

Hall @ Daniel Hand @ 6
-Hall is 9-0 but hasn't faced anyone close to be considered a good opponent so this is their chance to show whether or not they are legit while Hand can do the same by picking up a much needed out-of-conference win since playing in the SCC is why their record is what it is.  Hand's got talent and this is at home so I would pick them to win.  I have the two teams at 19 and 15 respectively.

#2 Fairfield Prep @ Cheshire @ 7
-Speaking of the SCC, here is the marquee match-up for the second time already this season.  In the first one, Prep proved to be the top team in the conference, and then possibly Class, again with a 12-2 win!  Don't count the Rams out the second time around because they will be extremely motivated and at home this time; I have them at 14!

Tuesday 5/3

Conard @ Southington @ 430pm
-I may have Conard as the underdog at #22 to #18 Soutington but Soutington has struggled against top teams this year and Conard has lost to all the top teams they faced too but did a lot better, especially on defense.  So not only is this a CCC game, which are always important, but both really need the quality win over the other one to gain respect in the state and the rankings.

#3 Ridgefield @ #6 Greenwich @ 5
-Bitter rivals meet again in a game that Ridgefield needs to win to bolster their claim as the #2 team in the FCIAC and #1 or 2 in Class L (they would need to beat Wilton as well to virtually lock it in).  Greenwich is more than capable of pulling the-I can't even say upset-here but a loss wouldn't drop them from #3 or 4 in the FCIAC.

#1 Darien @ Fairfield Ludlowe @ 7
-Fairfield Ludlowe may be 17 in my rankings but when you're on top everyone gives you their best effort so Darien better be ready to defend their perfect record in-state and top spot in the FCIAC.  If I had to pick, the Blue Wave keeps rolling.

#5 Wilton @ #7 New Canaan @ 7
-Yet another Top Ten match-up and another FCIAC showdown.  NC could use the win after their loss to Greenwich and they still have Ridgeiflield (and Darien) to prove themselves against but it would start here with a win over Wilton.  Wilton is looking to end a two-game losing streak (both out of state) and remind everyone why they have been the only other CT team nationally ranked all season!

#8 Staples @ #4 Brien McMahon @ 7
-Now this one is special because Brien hasn't had beaten the traditional top dogs in FCIAC lacrosse yet, Wilton aside, so a win here would make them very legitimate this year.  On the other hand, Staples can move up the ranks of the FCIAC with a win over McMahon but at a least a good showing will keep them in the Top Ten.

Boys' Volleyball: Top Games for Mon 5/2 and Tues 5/3

Monday 5/2

Bloomfield @ South Windsor @ 5pm
-Bloomfield, form Class M, is a perfect 8-0 but hasn't faced a test like the 7-1 Bobcats from South Windsor, a Class L team.  Can Bloomfield stay undefeated or will South Windsor pick up a quality win and an all-important CCC win?

Cheshire @ Xavier @ 530
-On paper Cheshire is the better team this year, having only lost two all sets all season in their come-from-behind 3-2 win over Newington, but not only is this a SCC game but the two teams are rivals.  Cheshire came back form down 0-2 to beat Xavier in the 2009 SCC Championship game and the next year, Xavier beat Cheshire 3-2 to win their first SCC title ever.  Also, Cheshire was the only team to beat Xavier last year in the regular season so maybe Xavier can return the favor this year!

Darien @ Bridgeport Central @ 530
-Darien's (9-1) only loss on the season is to Staples but other than that they have not lost a set all season!  Bridgeport Central (8-1) somehow lost to Kolbe Cathedral but has won all their other games, including Danbury twice and Oxford.  I think Darien will win.

Ridgefield @ Masuk @ 530
-Yet another quality game, Ridgefield is 9-1 and tearing up Class L while Masuk is also 9-1 and tearing up Class M.  Masuk's one loss is Ridgefield 2-3 in their season opener but they beat Staples who beat Darien who beat Ridgefield so those four teams create a circle atop boys' volleyball in the state.  The second meeting between these two teams is a can't miss match!

Southington @ Newington @ 6
-A fifth and final big-time match up on the second day of May; Southington is coming off their 0-3 embarrassment at the hands of Staples while Newington is looking to rebound from their heart-breaking 2-3 loss to Cheshire last week!  Both teams need this win as if they didn't already know that.  Oh yeah, this will decide who is the top team in the CCC this year as Glastonbury is not really in contention and we haven't seen Wethersfield face either of these teams yet but a loss to South Windsor doesn't help their case (SW lost to G-bury)!

Tuesday 5/3

2 games, neither of which is worth noting.

Boys' Lacrosse: Rankings (5/1)

As promised, here are my first rankings of the season at the halfway point: May 1st.  A little NOTE: After each team's record I am including their out-of-state record since so many teams play multiple out-of-state games and as a point of reference because these rankings are the top teams in CT.

#1 Darien (8-2) (3-2)
-No surprise here, the Blue Wave are as ridiculously good as everyone thought they were going to be coming into the season with six division one athletes!  For their resume, they have wins over St. Joseph, Greenwich, Wilton, Brien McMahon, and St. Anthony's (NY) one of the better teams in the entire nation.  Also for impressive out-of-state wins they beat Yorktown (NY) and Niskayuna (NY) while their two losses have come against the #1 team in the nation, Haverford (PA), and then Manhasset (NY).  Coming up this week they have two away games at a good Fairfield Ludlowe (Tuesday) team and New Canaan (Saturday).

#2 Fairfield Prep (6-2) (1-2)
-Also undefeated in-state, the Jesuits have some people arguing they should be the number one team in the state.  It is certainly hard to argue with the quality wins they were getting week in and week out at the beginning of the season but one must remember Darien has a ton of good wins too with similar margins of victory and they play in a better conference.  Prep has beat Hand, defending Class L champion Cheshire, and Glastonbury.  Their out-of-state win against Chatham (NJ) was statistically their best opponent (that they beat).  However, Prep is currently on a two-game losing streak after falling to a mad good Delbarton (NJ) school and by one goal to a just as good, if not better, Chaminade (NY) team.  The Jesuits can get back to winning with Cheshire at home Monday, a trip to Greenwich on Thursday and then a home game against Xavier on Saturday...all very good teams!  No, they will never face Darien.

#3 Ridgefield (8-1) (2-1)
-Statistically better than Prep, the Tigers are off to a great start!  Although they are also undefeated in-state, their quality wins are not nearly impressive: Somers (NY), Staples, John Jay (NY).  Their one loss was to an absolutely filthy Summit (NJ) squad that is on a 58 game win streak!  Ridgefield can really bolster their stock this week with three quality games: Greenwich on Tuesday, Wilton on Thursday and Fairfield Ludlowe on Saturday.

#4 Brien McMahon (7-2) (0-0)
-The Senators would be virtually undefeated if they did just a little better in their 8-9 loss to Simsbury and if they didn't schedule Darien this year (4-11) loss.  Their wins are outstanding with the likes of St. Joseph, Wilton and Fairfield Ludlowe (Brookfield and Branford are also decent teams).  They host Staples on Tuesday then travel to Norwalk, not a bad team, on Saturday of this week.

#5 Wilton (4-4) (0-2)
-One may say that even 4-2 can't be good enough for #5 but how about if the losses are Darien 7-14 and Brien McMahon 10-11 and then three of those four wins are Danbury, Glastonbury and Greenwich (fourth is Fairfield Warde).  The two out of state teams they lost to are St. Anthony's (NY), number 18 in the nation, and La Salle College High (PA), ranked 10 spots higher than Prep in nation (70 vs 80).  Wilton can end their current two game skid this week when they have four straight AWAY games, Tuesday to Friday, but it won't be easy: New Canaan, Joel Barlow, Ridgefield, and finally Westhill!

#6 Greenwich (4-4) (0-2)
-Also 4-2 in state, the difference between them and Wilton is a 8-9 loss on 4/21.  Greenwich's other in state loss is by seven goals to Darien and their two out of state are Conestoga (PA) and Warde Melville (NY), #6 and #2 in the nation respectively (Darien is 13)!  For wins they have Westhill, Danbury New Canaan, and Staples so that should expel any doubts one may have had about the Cardinals.  This could be the best or the worst week of their season with Ridgefield and Prep coming to them on Tuesday and Thursday and then a trip to Billerica Memorial (MA), an 8-2 team, on Saturday!

#7 New Canaan (5-4) (1-3)
-Have you figured out the FCIAC is the best conference for lax yet?  A 4-1 (in-state) team is 6th in the conference even with wins over Fairfield Ludlowe, St. Joseph, Norwalk and John Jay (NY).  Greenwich is their loss in CT and they have lost three out of state games: Somers (NY), a team they should have beat, Summit (NJ), 13-0 and #1 in NJ, and Lawrenceville (NJ) who is 11-1.  The Rams have an easy game against Rye (NY) on Thursday but on Tuesday they get Wilton and on Saturday they get Darien, the #2 and #1 teams in the FCIAC respectively; all three are home games!

#8 Staples (7-2) (1-0)
-The 7th and final FCIAC team in the Top Ten...that's more than half and Prep is in Fairfield County so almost all of the first 8 teams!  The Wreckers topped Ludlowe in OT, Norwalk, Danbury, and Glastonbury but lost two very important games to Ridgefield and Greenwich.  They make a trip to Norwalk again on Tuesday for a big FCIAC game at Brien McMahon, one that really either team can win.  Then they should pick up two wins at Horace Greeley (NY) on Thursday and at home versus winless Fairfield Warde on Saturday.

#9 Newton (8-0) (0-0)
-The reason the Nighthawks are so high is that they are undefeated and all in state.  Their wins are decent with New Milford, Brookfield, Conard, St. Joseph and New Fairfield.  They should go to 9-0 at Immaculate in Danbury on Tuesday but a home game against Barlow on Thursday will be their biggest game of the year thus far and may knock one of the two out of the Top Ten!

#10 Joel Barlow (8-0) (0-0)
-Also undefeated and all in state wins, just slightly less impressive.  The Falcons big wins are Masuk, Hand and Simsbury.  Spots 9-15 are really close and honestly Xavier of Glastonbury could be #9 and #10 (or #10 and #9) they just aren't undefeated.  Barlow has a talented team and can prove it with four huge games this week.  To start, they can silence a lot of people by beating Weston on Monday.  Wednesday they have anothe home game and this time they get Wilton...their chance to crack into the top eight in my rankings.  Thursday they can either rebound with or continue rolling on Newton at Newton and then Barlow rounds out the week at a good Guilford team on Saturday!

Here are the teams just out of the top ten.  Once Xavier plays some more quality opponents they can move up or down.  The first five out, 11-15 are a big win away from a big jump.  #16-20 need so show me some more to move up but they are very good teams in their own conferences and classes; 21 and 22 are just a step down from them but still quality opponents.

11 Glastonbury (5-3) (1-0)
-Beat Hand and Medfield (MA); losses are Wilton, Prep and Staples.

12 Xavier (6-1) (0-0)
-Beat Simsbury, Southington and Conard and their only loss of the season is Hand.

13 Simsbury (6-3) (0-0)
-Beat Brien McMahon, Cheshire and Conard; losses are Xavier, Barlow and Hand.

14 Cheshire (5-3) (0-1)
-Beat Hand twice and SouthingtonSimsbury and Bat Shore (NY)

15 Daniel Hand (4-5) (0-0)
-Beat Simsbury and Xavier but lost to Cheshire twice and Glastonbury (also Barlow and Prep) so placing them was very hard.

16 New Fairfield (8-2) (1-1)
-Beat Conard and Weston; lost to Newton and Rye (NY).

17 Fairfield Ludlowe (6-3) (1-0)
-Beat Conard, Southington and Mamaroneck and lost to Staples in OT but also only beat Norwalk in OT; lost to New Canaan and Brien McMahon too; still searching for that big win.

18 Southington (7-3) (0-0)
-Losses are Cheshire, Xavier and Ludlowe but they've shown they got some talent this year.

19 Hall (9-0) (0-0)
-9-0 but no quality wins.

20 Weston (6-2) (1-1)
-I don't know why everyone likes the Trojans so much, their only thing close to a good win is Mamaroneck (NY) but they've lost to New Fairfield and Huntington (NY).

21 St. Joseph (5-4) (0-0)
-Good players and they are that team that I think is really poised to have a breakout game; they still have Ludlowe, Greenwich, Wilton and Staples left to do it against; their losses are all to top ten teams, Darien, Brien, Newton and New Canaan, but they their best win is Norwalk.

22 Conard (4-5) (0-0)
-Just made the cut with no quality wins but a quality team that has really shown it in their losses: 9-11 to New Fairfield, 7-8 to Newton, 5-6 to Ludlowe, 1-3 to Simsbury and 3-5 to Xavier; they play great defense and that is an extremely valuable assest; much like St. Joseph, they are on teh verge of pulling a major upset; Southington, Glastonbury and Cheshire (and Hall) remain for the Cheiftains.

23 and 24 - Norwalk (4-5, 0-0) and Danbury (5-4, 0-0) may make some noise in the middle of the pack.

NOTE: I did switch Xavier and Glastonbury on 5/2 from 11 and 12 to 12 and 11.

Boys' Volleyball: Friday Results (4/29)

Friday 4/29

Masuk 3 @ Glastonbury 0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-18)
-For Masuk, Collin Neaton had 30 assists and 11 service points and Connor Ryan had 13 kills.  For Glastonbury, Joel Annibalini had 6 kills.

Staples 3 @ Southington 0
-All I know is Southington got embarrassed on their home court and that they didn't even reach 10 points in one of the sets!

Boys' Lacrosse: Friday and Saturday Results (4/29 and 4/30)

Friday 4/29

Daniel Hand 9 @ Cheshire 11
