Boys' Lacrosse: Friday and Saturday's Top Games (4/29 and 4/30)

Friday 4/29

Daniel Hand @ Cheshire @ 7
-I shouldn't have to say much about this game as we saw it on opening day down at Hand's turf field where the defending Class L Champion Rams walked out with a 8-7 win.  Hand just took down previously undefeated Xavier 11-6 on Tuesday and now they want to be considered for the #2 team in the SCC again by splitting their season series with Cheshire.  Both teams will be fired up for this one and the fans can expect a truly exceptional lacrosse game!

New Fairfield @ Newton @ 7
-New Fairfield is 8-0 and they have quality wins over Coanrd and Weston while Newton is also undefeated at 7-0 with an impressive 17-7 win over St. Joseph and they are just straight blowing out their opponents, even the halfway decent ones!  This is gonna be a good one between the #5 and #11 teams in the state, according to the New Haven Register poll or #6 and #5 statistically; either way it is a big-time game for both schools!

Saturday 4/30

St. Anthony's (NY) @ Wilton @ 12pm
-St. Anthony's only lost 8-9 in OT to Darien; need I say much more?  Well they are also #2 in New York's Catholic high school league behind #1 Chiminade, the team that beat Fairfield Prep 7-6 on Tuesday.  This will be a very good test for Wilton that they hopefully benefit from and improve from such good competition.

Brien McMahon @ Fairfield Ludlowe @ 12
-Brien can pick up a quality win here and establish some consistent play against good opponents.  Don't forget the other side: Ludlowe can rebound from their loss to New Canaan and show they are one of the top (15/20) teams in the state.

John Jay (NY) @ Ridgefield @ 1
-John Jay lost 7-8 to New Canaan but they are the #3 team in New York B's Section 1.  They have some big wins against quality teams in that section so they are well deserving of that ranking.  Ridgefield is #3 in the Register poll and #2 statistically so they will do well to represent CT lax against yet another quality out-of-state opponent.

Xavier @ Conard @ 1
-Xavier needs to rebound from their first loss of the season, 6-11 to Hand, and Conard is a quality opponenet.  The Chieftains are the best 3-4 team in the state but currently on a three game slide (Newton, Fairfield Ludlowe and Simsbury) that they are hoping to end at home against the Falcons (Hand was 3-4 when they beat Xavier too).  This is the only quality lax game in the region and is definitely worth going to!

Greenwich @ Warde Melville (NY) @ 2
-Warde Melville is no joke: they are coming off a 6-7 OT loss, their first of the season, to West Islip.  Melville and Islip are ranked #2 and #1 IN THE NATION respectively!  The Register poll has Greenwich at 6 so this would be a huge win for them and for CT lax in general but if they don't pull it out, they should, like Wilton, at least take the experience and get better from it to get an edge on other CT teams that have not faced such quality competition!

New Canaan @ Lawrenceville (NJ) @ 230
-Lawrenceville is 7-1 and #5 in the New Jersey Private school league so they present a stiff test for New Canaan.  I expect the Rams to be ready for their fourth out-of-state game of the season, one they can certainly win!

Niskayuna (NY) @ Darien @ 3
-Niskayuna is coming off  a 5-6 loss to Shenendehowa, the #1 team in New York A's Section 2; Niskayuna is #2.  Darien has the opportunity to once again represent the best CT lax has to offer and top an out-of-state opponent at the top of their league!
