Boys' Lacrosse: Friday and Saturday's Top Games (5/20 and 5/21)

Friday 5/20

Simsbury @ #9 Glastonbury @ 5pm
-The most anticipated game in the CCC for quite some time, the two top teams will go head-to-head for not only the top seed in the upcoming tournament but also the respect of the state and bragging rights.  Glastonbury needs to win to stay in the Top Ten but Simsbury is right there nipping at their heels.

Guilford @ Cheshrie @ 7
-Guilford is seeking revenge for a 2-6 loss in the second game of the season.  If all the Indians are there and healthy, they have gotten a lot better from the beginning of the season and will be very hungry to take this coveted SCC game from the defending champs.  Cheshire is rebounding from their loss to New Canaan on Wednesday, as they head into the SCC tournament next week as the #2 seed.

Saturday 5/21

Southington @ #9 Glastonbury @ 11am
-A make-up of Tuesday's game, Glastonbury simply needs to go out there and win to prove they are at the top of the CCC but Southington is more than capable of pulling the upset.  Great game to start of the day!

Stonington @ Guilford @ 4
-Stonington is 14-0 but their only real "tests" so far have been 10-4 Ledyard twice and 9-5 Norwich Free Academy.  Their closest game has been by five goals to Ledyard once and 8-6 Waterford once.  Guilford, on the other hand, may be 7-7 but they play in the highly competitive SCC and have beaten some otop teams, like Hand and then Joel Barlow in the following game.  This is their last game before the SCC tournament on Monday.

ALL THE FCIAC TOURNAMENT GAMES:

(8) Fairfield Ludlowe @ (1) #1 Darien @ 1
-The 8 v 1 match-up is meant to be an easy game for the 1 seed and this one doesn't even look like it will be close. Darien won 17-4 in the regular season.

(7) #8 Staples @ (2) #2 Greenwich
-Way back on 4/23 (approx a month ago) Greenwich did beat Staples 8-5 but 3 goals is not a safe margin of victory in the FCIAC.  The stakes are higher this time and both teams will be very motivated to play some of their best lacrosse of the season.  Greenwich is the favorite but this is the playoffs now so anything can happen!

(6) #7 Brien McMahon @ (3) #6 Ridgefield @ 2
-These two haven't forgot each other since just over a week ago on 5/12 is when Ridgefield got the better of McMahon 12-9.  This one should be another close game and a win for either team would be huge as both compete in Class L (and have the same record ironically, but tournament games do not count on a team's record for states).

(5) #5 Wilton @ (4) #4 New Canaan @ 5
-Not only is the 5 v 4 game so it's supposed to be the closest and best match-up but the regular season meeting between these two saw a dramatic come-from-behind victory for New Canaan 10-8; expect another great game!
