Boys' Lacrosse: Opening Weekend Results (4/8 and 4/9)

Friday

Daniel Hand 6 Fairfield Prep 10
-Hand was up 4-2 at half time but Prep scored five unanswered goals in the third quarter and got the win despite being outshot 30-27 in the game.  Kevin Brown had eight points for the Jesuits (5 goals, 3 assists) but the rest of the offense was spread out: Tim Edmonds had 2 goals; Thomas Brewster, Harry Cotter and Randy Giles each had one; Charlie Keady had 2 assists and David White had one.  Mike Seely had 16 saves.  For Hand, Paul Alberti provided 3 goals and Alec Pacelli, Chad Crisco, and Ryan Natusch each added one but it wasn't enough.  Richie Ortiz had 15 saves.

Ridgefield 18 @ Trumbull 3

Cheshire 6 @ Guilford 2

Saturday

Simsbury 4 @ Xavier 6
-Geoff Bruno and freshman Alec Thomas each scored twice to lift Xavier past the slightly favored Simsbury squad.  Matt Kycia and Dan Walsh also scored while Trevor Buchas was in on a few assists.  Nick Ford had 24 saves.  Both teams have big opponents next Saturday as well (Southington for Xavier and Hand for Simsbury).

Mamaroneck (NY) 1 @ Weston 4

Norwich Free Academy 8 @ Ledyard 13

Darien 13 @ Greenwich 6
-After losing to Greenwich in the FCIAC semifinals last year, Darien's hunger for vengeance showed in this one.  They played an intense and physical game, especially the second quarter.  The game started evenly matched, ending 2-2 after the first.  Then, Darien went a major run in the second period led by multiple scorers, taking the quarter 7-1 and making the score 9-3 at the break.  In the second half, Greenwich did have three minutes of a man advantage but only got 7 shots (1 on net) and, more importantly, zero goals.  In the game, Eric Foote and Stephen Dodd each had two for the Cardinals while Andrew Feeney and Jason Sands had the other two and David Dickson added an assist.  Ryan Fisher finished with 15 saves but it wasn't enough as the Blue Wave got four goals and two assists from Ben Preston and another two goals and one assist each from Case Matheis and Graham Maybell.  Richard Gregory also had two goals and the other three were from Bobby Weaver, Baylis Treen and Scotty Waters.  Dylan Torey saved 10 in goal.
