Monday 4/11
Masuk 3 @ Staples 2
-Ridgefield topped Masuk 3-2 in the first game of the season and I know Masuk graduated some key players from their Class M runner-up team from last year but nonetheless, the Panthers shocked everyone, myself included, by upsetting the Class L powerhouse Wreckers. Staples may have a new coach (Shepro) and new faces on varsity but the first single-handedly built Trumbull's, now powerhouse, volleyball program and the second happens every year in Westport and they still bring home the hardware. Congrats to Masuk and although they play in Class M, this result means that Class L is wide open this year!
Lewis Mills 1 @ Newington 3
Ridgefield 3 @ Fairfield Warde-Ludlowe 0
-One of the teams that was happy to hear Staples fell, Ridgefield, has now picked up another good win today and will only keep rolling!
Tuesday 4/12
Xavier 0 @ Southington 3 (25-12, 25-16, 25-21)
-Captain Mike Cannata had 8 kills, Dan Carbone had 10, Zac Nichols 6 and Matt Russo 5 all for Southington on Ryan Masters' 28 assists while Sean Nelson only had 10 kills for Xavier. The Blue Knights played solid defense too getting 10 digs from Matt Macchi and 9 from Carbone.
This blog is all about high school sports in Connecticut. I do not cover every sport but I cover mainly girls vball, girls bball, football, boys bball, boys ice hockey, boys lacrosse and occasional posts on running (all 3 seasons), girls field hockey, wrestling, and boys soccer. I have a special interest in boys vball since I play that sport. I am a contributing writer for LaxPower; you should check out the link below!
