Wednesday 4/13
not really any good ones but if I had to watch one of the four I'd go with this FCIAC game: Stamford @ Westhill @ 4pm
Thursday 4/14
Masuk @ Joel Barlow @ 4pm
-Masuk is rebounding from their loss to New Fairfield while Joel Barlow is playing only their second game of the year after beating a good Simsbury team 7-4 last Wednesday and then having their big-time game with Wilton on Tuesday be rained out. Expect a good one!
Wilton @ Darien @ 430
-Can Wilton, the #6 pre-season team in CT (now #2), knock off Darien, the unanimous #1 team in CT and #4 team in the nation (according to ESPN Rise)? Want another reason to check out the game and legitimately think Wilton has a chance; Wilton is ranked #26 in the nation by ESPN Rise and the only other team from CT ranked in the Top 50. At the very least I expect a very good game between two FCIAC foes and I can't think of a better way to spend a (finally) nice evening than watching some realyyyyy good lacrosse!
Cheshire @ Southington @ 430
-The Rams are coming off the 12-2 massacre they suffered at the hands of Fairfield Prep and Southington is no easy team to rebound against. The Blue Knights are blowing opponents out (49-22), having cruised to a 3-0 record early in the season. Cheshire hasn't generated much offense this season but they found a way to win against Guilford and Hand, two good teams, but playing just well enough on defense. This is Southington's chance to upset the Rams and shock the state!
Greenwich @ New Canaan @ 6
-To put things in perspective, Staples @ Ridgefield was #7 @ #8 according to the NHR pre-season poll but this one is #3 @ #4 [Cheshire @ FP was #5 @ #2]!!!!! Don't let their record fool you, New Canaan (0-1) lost to a very good Somers team from NY and Greenwich (1-1) lost only 6-13 to Darien (and beat Westhill 18-8). One can expect both teams to be very hungry for not just a big-time FCIAC win but also a marquee in-state win to send a message out to the rest of the state!
Fairfield Prep @ Guilford @ 7
-With the way FP is playing lately, Guilford's chances are looking bleak in this one. However, it will be a very good test for the Indians and will allow them to show what they're made of. Prep, on the other hand, rounds out SCC play until they go to Xavier on 4/28 (they play 3 out-of-state games and G-bury before then) and after beating Hand and Cheshire (and Amity) a win against Guilford puts them at the top (Xavier is really the only other contender).
Glastonbury @ Hand @ 7
-A very interesting out-of-conference game right here features a top Class L versus a top Class M team and a top CCC team versus a top SCC team. The match-up of G-bury's quick offense and tight defense against Hand's teamwork and play makers presents an odd situation, which, at the end of the day, will come out in Glastonbury's favor, at least I think so. Hand can pull off the win, many think they will go far this year and the SCC will prepare them well to do so but Glastonbury rebounded from their 5-12 loss to Wilton with a 15-2 slaughter of Windsor so they are the hotter team coming in; before beating Guilford 10-5 in their last game, Hand lost 7-8 to Cheshire and 6-10 to Fairfield Prep (both encouraging scores) so anything can happen!
This blog is all about high school sports in Connecticut. I do not cover every sport but I cover mainly girls vball, girls bball, football, boys bball, boys ice hockey, boys lacrosse and occasional posts on running (all 3 seasons), girls field hockey, wrestling, and boys soccer. I have a special interest in boys vball since I play that sport. I am a contributing writer for LaxPower; you should check out the link below!
